MAVN is led by Lesley Marshall, an award-winning filmmaker and media artist with films appearing in 50 festivals nationally and internationally. Music videos by Lesley have been featured on Rolling Stone, American Songwriter, Vice, Exclaim!, Brooklyn Vegan, Aux, Rookie Mag, Stereogum, ClashMag and UPROXX. Cinematography and editing of the 2019 Inside Out selected webseries “Village Legacy Project” can be seen on OutTV. Lesley’s first documentary web series “Dollar Bin DJ” was shortlisted for Telefilm Talent To Watch and WIFTV IDM Accelerator in 2018. In 2022, received full funding for the documentary, the “Underground Midwives of Vancouver Island" from the BC Arts Council and was supported by CBC Creator’s Network for the short “The Colour Orange.” Lesley's 2024 animations were featured in CBC's "The Nature of Things: My Pet Assassin."

In 2023, Lesley received the emerging directors’ grant from NSI Telus StoryHive for a local short about generational knowledge and midwifery in Sooke, BC. Projection art by Lesley has been performed at the National Art Centre, Montreal Jazz Fest, CentrePHI, toured nationally in Canada and presented in galleries in NYC, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and the Netherlands.

A communications and media major at Ottawa University (minor in geography and environmental studies) with an expanded video and audio art practice through Digital Arts Resource Centre (formerly SAW Video) and video co-ops in Canada. Lesley works developing anti-oppression based filmmaking practice and training initiative that has been presented at the Royal Anthropological Institute Film Festival and Conference London UK 2023, University of Ottawa, CineVic, Carleton University and Surveillance and Society Conference in the Netherlands. Lesley with MAVNetwork contributes to the feature film industry in multiple departments including camera and post, teaches camera, post-production and projection workshops privately, at community arts centres and at a university level. Lesley is the 2023 CMPA Mentorship Recipient for the CBC/PBS feature and Nature of Things episode "Animal Pride" and is currently the MFA inter-media arts candidate on scholarship at University of Victoria. Sound art sculptures have been commissioned for short films and art galleries.

Lesley also performs in indie bands Bonnie Doon, LES666 and DIELECTRIC.
